Are you ready for winter weather?

7 steps to prep for winter.jpg

Now that the air is starting to feel crisp and I’m starting to see Christmas decorations in all of the stores (does anyone else feel like this gets earlier and earlier every year?!), I’m starting to think about prepping for winter.

In Oklahoma, you just never know what the weather will hold, so it’s a great idea to make sure you’re prepared for whatever comes our way.

Here are a few of my recommended ways to prepare your home for winter (whether you’re thinking about selling sometime in the near future or not)!

Check your insulation

If you need to add some more this is a perfect time since it will help you save on your heating bills throughout the season. It’s also a good idea to add weather strips to doors and windows if you don’t have them.

Remove any tree branches

Remove tree branches that could possibly fall on your house if it got weighed down by ice or snow. Nobody wants to wake up to a damaged roof!

Clean out your gutters!

Speaking of roofs, it’s also a good idea to take a little time to clean out your gutters!

Take a look at your fireplace

Make sure it’s clean and working properly. That way you and your family can cuddle by the fireplace with a cup of hot chocolate on those bitter, cold days.

Look at your heater

I also like to recommend having a technician come out to look at your heater. By having them perform this simple check, it will (hopefully) help you avoid having to have them out on the coldest day of the year when your heater stops working.

Keep your faucet dripping

Be sure you keep an eye on the weather, and when it freezes keep your faucet dripping to help prevent your pipes from freezing.

Prepare to store your lawn mower

Finally, my favorite tip is to prepare to store your lawn mower by using or removing all of the fuel. This means we all get a break from mowing for a few months (woohoo!).

Hopefully these few things will help you feel more prepared and ready to embrace the winter season!
