Interview with an Author: Amy Hancock
Today I sat down with my friend and author, Amy Hancock. Amy has written the most perfect book for parents trying to understand essential oils and the benefits for their family. It’s called Calm, Cool & Connected: An Essential Oil Guide for Foster/Adoptive Families. The book was originally designed for foster and adoptive families and is written with their hearts in mind. However, any of the recipes will work for any family.
Not only is it filled with amazing tips but the illustration is also phenomenal. There are recipe cards where the parents can write in their family’s favorite oil or blend. There is also a section about every individual oil with descriptions so you can understand your oils. There’s helpful information about connecting with your kids that doesn’t have much to do with oils. I love how she brings together oils and families.
Amy had been thinking about writing the book for over four years. She started using essential oils in 2011 and became a foster parent in 2010. Parenthood was overwhelming and figuring out oils at the same time became complicated. She knew oils would help her family but wasn’t quite sure how. There wasn’t research or resources available for essentials oils like there is now. She finally committed to using oils for 30 days and felt so much better after. She knew then she wanted to share with others the benefits of essential oils. She finally decided to write her book in February of this year.
When I started essential oils, I knew they were good, and I wanted to use them for my family, but I didn’t know where to start. I wish this book was available when I was learning how to use oils.
Amy’s book talks about the Young Living Essential Oils starter kit and breaks down each oil that comes in the starter kit. She tells you how to use the oil without overwhelming you with information. It doesn’t have to be read front to back to understand oils. You can find specific information in the index for recipes and other resources that makes it incredibly easy to find what you need.
Amy’s favorite seasonal blend is Christmas Spirit with spruce, orange and cinnamon. She also suggests adding Stress Away and Thieves to never go wrong! Her book is available for purchase on Amazon and essentailswithamy.com.
